You: Engineering Manager with experience leading a cross-functional team of engineers in a product-oriented tech team

The Role

At Prolific we have a united Tech team with Engineering, Product, Design and Research all working closely as a cross-functional collective.

Within the collective, our stream-aligned product teams are centred on product areas, aligned to a mission and given autonomy to self-organise towards the best possible outcomes. Teams have members from all disciplines, with exact size and shape balanced to fit the needs of their product area and mission.

As an Engineering Manager, you are at the heart of one of our stream-aligned teams. You will be responsible for the engineers in the team and accountable for predictable delivery and high-quality output. Working in partnership with your product counterpart, you will ensure the team is set up for success by helping to hone practices and processes while supporting the progression and wellbeing of technical team members.

What you'll be doing

• You will be responsible for leading a cross functional team of up to 5 engineers, working closely with the Product Management and Design team
• Using advanced modern, agile software development practices, you will be accountable for the predictable delivery and high-quality output of your team
• You will be customer focused, making data driven decisions to guide the team
• You will manage, coach, and mentor engineers to nurture their growth with a goal of developing the group into a high-performing team
• Working with Staff engineers, you will ensure the current and future tech strategy of your team aligns with the product roadmap and wider Prolific tech strategy and initiatives
• With a You Build It, You Run It mindset you will champion and contribute to our collaborative DevOps culture, optimising your team for fast flow
• You will understand the codebase and services your team works on, facilitating technical decisions and may include hands-on support
• You will champion our principles, ensure our communities are well established and contribute to the improvement of our engineering culture
• In support of our growth, you will assist organisational planning and recruitment

What you’ll bring

• You have a deep understanding of web applications and the surrounding stacks with experience building and supporting public cloud apps
• You have a passion for developing others with experience in managing, motivating, coaching and mentoring
• Have worked in an environment with strong engineering practices and can demonstrate how you have improved the culture
• You care about the product life cycle and are customer value focused
• You can demonstrate the use of continuous, iterative improvement and a culture of feedback to drive change in your team and across the wider organisation
• You are passionate about software development, sociable, with an appetite for learning and self-improvement

Our Interview Process

Talent Call: You'll meet with one of our Talent team and have an exploratory call about the role requirements, life at Prolific, as well as your background and aspirations.

Hiring Manager Interview: You'll interview with two members of the team, one of which will be the hiring manager. You'll have the opportunity to ask about the company and the role, and we'll ask you questions about your experiences and goals. Panel Interview: We'll hold a panel interview that evaluates skills required for the role. You'll meet with more of our team and may be asked to complete a presentation or task. You'll be compensated with a £50 voucher 💰 for completing the task because we know your time is valuable! Final Interview: We will deep dive into your past experiences, goals, motivations, and skills all aligned to our Prolific Principles. You'll speak with two to three members of the team and - as always - have an opportunity to ask questions about the role and company.
