Us: Fast growing startup of 80+ people. Remote team, mainly based in the UK. YC alumni (summer 2019). We’re on a mission to connect people around the world to make trustworthy data more accessible and facilitate world-changing research 🚀
The Role
As a complex marketplace platform with a strong focus on data, we know we are sitting on a trove of information that can take our product, and world-class research, to the next level. We are looking for a mid-level Data Analyst who will help us utilise our data to give us the important insights we need to make crucial business decisions.
The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with large data sets, and able to use statistics and know how to identify and interpret important patterns in our data. You should have strong experience with SQL and be comfortable with Python. You will have knowledge of product-driven event and data analytics, and familiarity with using BI tools to communicate your findings.
You will work as part of our small but excellent team of data analysts, scientists and engineers. We’re a deeply collaborative and friendly team, who work together to support Prolific’s mission through insights and data products.
What you'll be doing
- Analysing how user behaviour drives platform growth, and making recommendations on how to allocate resources to improve this growth.
- Improving the quality, the honesty, and engagement of Prolific’s participant pool through analysis of user behaviour and collection of new data.
- Increasing the diversity and representativeness of Prolific’s participant pool by ongoing monitoring and analysis of demographics.
- Helping our marketing team understand the impact of their campaigns, and predict ROI.
- Improving the way the data team works and helping shape business decisions.
- Unpicking the relationships between key growth metrics, retention, stickiness, churn and determining causal links between product changes and growth.
- Using BI platforms, such as Metabase, to create visualisations, segment our user base, and develop dashboards.
- Telling stories with data, and writing reports that summarise the insights you’ve gained and your confidence in your findings.
What you’ll bring
- Experience writing high-quality analytic SQL, and some experience with Python.
- Understanding of statistical practices and common analytical techniques.
- Experience of product analytics, such as A/B tests, retention and churn metrics.
- Great verbal and written communication skills, as evidenced by presentations and written reports.
- A hunger to learn lots of new things!
Even better if you have
- Experience building production dashboards in a common BI platform (Looker, Tableau, PowerBI, etc).
- Comfortable using Git for version control
- Knowledge of advanced techniques such as machine learning, or multilevel modelling.
- Understanding of marketplace dynamics, behavioural research or or business intelligence.
What you’ll get
⚖️ Work Life Balance: We’re all looking to strike the right work-life balance, and as a remote-first company you’re able to work flexibly from home or our dog-friendly co-working space in Old Street. We offer 25 days of holiday, plus bank holidays of course, which you can opt out of if you’d like. We also offer summer hours, with early finish Fridays throughout June to August.

🧘 Wellbeing: We care deeply about our employee's well-being and that’s why we offer comprehensive Bupa private health insurance that disregards medical history and also Medicash (a health cash plan). We also offer a taxable monthly stipend of £150 that you can spend on whatever improves your wellness and remote working experience. Having a healthy working environment is really important to us and so we offer a £1,000 home office budget, along with a Mac laptop when you start - plus a £200 yearly top-up.

We run collaborative quarterly company-wide meets up and team socials (both virtually and in-person) and it’s all paid for by us. Alongside this, we offer a £1,000 yearly team meet-up budget for discretionary meet-ups so that you can cover travel, food and accommodation. As a business we’re also committed to carbon offsetting; each month we donate money in your name to plant trees, and being remote we’re doing our bit to offset travel as well.
