Job Description

Based within the economics team within the Energy business, you will be expected to manage and contribute to projects involving a range of economic and financial issues on energy matters in a global arena.

You will be involved in projects which will include the following roles:

  • Energy system master planning (planting and optimal operations) from electricity generation to wider Integrated Resource Planning (IRP)
  • Techno-economic analysis of energy supply, flexibility and energy utilisation options (latter using total cost of ownership) and including levelised cost analysis of energy systems and services.
  • Techno-economics of the hydrogen economy and decarbonisation options
  • Energy demand forecasting – both top down (econometric) and bottom-up
  • Analysis of energy policy and regulatory impacts on markets and techno-economics
  • Report preparation and presentation to clients
  • Tender preparation based on Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Expressions of Interest (RFIs)

The work will involve predominantly quantitative analysis (using simple spreadsheet models, more complex models and proprietary software) and techno-economic analysis mainly in the electricity sector, especially the generation and Transmission sectors, but also likely to involve market and regulatory insight.

To be eligible for this opportunity, you will have less than 12 months relevant experience (excluding placements), have a degree (obtained no earlier than 2023) or are expected to achieve one of the following degree disciplines:

  • Economics

In your application you should be able to demonstrate your interest in the role and working at Mott MacDonald through relevant experience, such as studying relevant modules, or previous work experience.

We are looking for graduates with the following characteristics:
• Methodical approach to problem solving.
• Ability to use your initiative to undertake tasks efficiently and independently.
• Excellent verbal communication skills, which allow you to confidently liaise with clients and team members.
• Excellent written communication and attention to detail.

Mott MacDonald Ltd. are not currently offering sponsorship to candidates under the Skilled Worker visa route in the UK. This decision is as a consequence of the changes made to the Skilled Worker route by the UK Government in April 2024.
