Job Description

Job Description:

At Mars, we understand from years of data and experience that when more pets get more of their calories from pet nutrition products that are carefully formulate to their nutritional needs, that those pets live longer and healthier lives. However, in many parts of the world, “calorie conversion” (that is, the % of pet calories that come from pet nutrition products that meet well established and scientifically proven nutrition standards) is still relatively low. We have an opportunity and an obligation to help continually drive higher calorie conversion as we execute our purpose: A Better World for Pets. This role is responsible for managing our Calorie Conversion Strategy, end to end.

The role will partner with a very wide range of stakeholders depending on the responsibility above. The key stakeholders include: Global Portfolio and Demand Capabilities VP, Global Pet Nutrition CMO, Global Pet Nutrition head of Corporate Affairs, CMI (insights) leadership, global brand leadership, and a similar list of leaders at the market level. The role will also periodically interface and work with market/region Presidents, Pet Nutrition’s Global President, and key Pet Care leaders.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred

  • Fluent English

  • Experience managing a wide range of stakeholders (including very senior) and collaborating to drive to the right answer without always having direct authority

  • Experience with generating deep and impactful consumer insights

  • Experience in a global environment and with emerging markets preferred

  • Strong process management skills

  • Strong change management skills

  • Must be able to be onsite for a hybrid model, 50% of the time and travel 25-35%

The Sr. Manager will:

  • Have strategic agility, ability to structure problems, generate distinctive Insights, find creative solutions, prioritize opportunities, and build effective action plans

  • Have brand building experience with using both data and Intuition to form winning brand strategies

  • Drive inspiration, vision and purpose, communicate effectively, and influence

  • Be results orientated and have the ability to be practical and drive towards action and tangible results, not just the strategic ideas

What will be your key responsibilities?

Insights – Market:

  • Generate deep insight into the calorie conversion situation and how it has evolved over recent years around the globe, at a very granular level (e.g., locales, type of pet, consumer segment)

  • Work with local Pet Nutrition teams on the ground to refine and better understand these insights

  • Educate Pet Nutrition and Petcare stakeholders on findings and implications

Insights - Consumer:

  • Generate deep insight into why calorie conversion is low in the pockets where it is, and what could help change that over time

  • Work with local Pet Nutrition teams on the ground to refine and better understand these insights

  • Educate Pet Nutrition and Petcare stakeholders on findings and implications

Strategy:

  • Recommend short, medium, and long-term calorie conversion targets at a global and more granular level, based on the insights above

  • Identify levers Mars Pet Nutrition can pull to drive calorie conversion, segment these into global and locally relevant levers, and prioritize them

  • Lay out the medium-term plan to execute against these levers, including actions to take, resources required, timeline, expected impact

  • Communicate the strategy to senior stakeholders at Pet Nutrition market, global Pet Nutrition, global Petcare, and Mars Inc. levels as appropriate, and build support and buy-in to proceed

Execution:

  • Partner with markets to bring the strategy to life

  • Continuously adjust and improve as new learnings come in and as the marketplace evolves
