As one of the world’s most recognizable and loved brands, M&M’S holds significant strategic importance within Mars, anchoring a broad brand ecosystem of products and experiences that engage consumers in 100+ markets around the world. As the largest global brand within the Mars Snacking segment, the M&M’S brand comes to life in product and activations across our global markets, seven M&M’S retail stores, MMS.com, International Travel Retail experiences and more. And with nearly 8 in 10 Gen Z, Millennials, and Boomers naming M&M’S as their favorite candy, this role offers an opportunity to maintain and build on existing consumer and Associate love for M&M’S.

What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor’s Degree required (Communications, Public Affairs, Journalism or related field strongly preferred)

  • 8-12 years’ experience across communications and internal communications roles

  • Strong business acumen

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills

  • Critical thinking skills and good judgement

  • Demonstrated leadership in a matrixed, multi-stakeholder environment.

  • Regional or global experience is preferred

  • Experience within marketing or agency teams is a bonus

  • High autonomy

  • Excellent communication, influencing, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Demonstrates executive presence and the ability to engage and motivate senior stakeholders

What will be your key responsibilities?

Internal Communications:

  • Developing and executing internal communications aimed at engaging M&M’S Retail and Global Ecosystem Associates around the brand and company’s business agenda. The job holder should be passionate about bringing M&M’S purpose and culture to life for Associates, with recognition of the importance of building the brand from the inside out. They should be an experienced communications professional adept at planning and implementing successful Associate campaigns that cut through and generate positive impact, while respecting the cultural nuances as a globally operating brand and business.

  • Lead business communications in partnership with other members of the One M&M’S Leadership Team and People & Organization to mobilize Associates against M&M’S global strategy and purpose, brand priorities and Mars Snacking ambition.

  • Optimize established internal communications channels by developing metrics to improve effectiveness (e.g., reach, message and channel), deploying new channels as needed to improve Associate reach, interaction and engagement.

  • Lead with an Associate-first mindset, ensuring that external news is also shared internally, making sure market teams are equipped with messaging as needed.

  • Develop leadership communications content that supports M&M’S business strategy and Associate engagement plan.

  • Partner with functional leaders and cross-functional subject matter experts to create and deploy change communications through strategies that are effectively tailored for specific audiences and consistently reinforced across business communications.

  • Establish ways of working that promote consistent and collaborative ways of working between global and local stakeholders on key initiatives.

External Communication/Public Relations:

  • Lead strategic, external communications for M&M’S Retail business priorities and global brand corporate initiatives (including store announcements, licensing partnerships, etc.). focusing on earned-first deliverables.

  • Equip teams in markets, consumer care and M&M’S stores with messaging and guidance, enabling consistent promotion and protection of the brand.

  • Run the global retail press office including reactive media engagement, stakeholder engagement. Manage agency on monitoring brand mentions and leads both proactive/reactive responses on behalf of brand.

Issues Management:

  • Proactively and reactively guide the business regarding external/internal threats and opportunities, creating strategies to protect, enhance, and/or accelerate business strategies—bringing the outside in.

  • Lead crisis preparedness for the M&M’S Retail team.

  • Serve as a global resource for market Corporate Affairs leads around the world, advising on inquiries concerning M&M’S and enabling market teams with messaging.

  • Work in partnership with Corporate Affairs colleagues to effectively manage media and key stakeholders

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
