APM Terminals

APM Terminals Maasvlakte II is one of the most advanced container terminals in the world. With a 24/7 operation, fully automated equipment and a significant capacity expansion on the horizon, reliable and integrated data analysis is crucial for success.

Role and responsibilities:

As a Senior Data Analyst, you will play a central role in shaping and applying data analytics for operational excellence, strategic decision-making, and risk management. You combine in-depth technical skills with business sensitivity. You will work with an Integral Demand & Supply Data Foundation, optimize processes, and develop risk analytics that deliver direct value to the terminal. As Senior Data Analyst you will report to the Head of Business Analytics

Responsibilities in five strategic areas:

1. Strategic Analysis & Value-Driven Insights

  • Develop integrated analyses on capacity, occupancy, throughput and supply/demand alignment.

  • Lead scenario and risk analysis (Risk Analytics) for operational and strategic decision-making.

  • Support Senior management team, Tech management team and transformation team with fact-driven underpinning for investments, improvement programs, and capacity choices.

2. Data Foundations & Governance

  • Work with the Lead Data Analyst to build a scalable, reliable data landscape.

  • Design and monitor data quality, metadata, validation rules, and data structures that support analytics.

  • Ensure alignment with corporate data governance, compliance and global standards.

3. Performance Monitoring & Optimization

  • Build end-to-end performance reports and dashboards with insights into bottlenecks, efficiency and opportunities for improvement.

  • Analyse KPI deviations and lead structural root cause analyses.

  • Work on continuous improvement of business processes based on data insights and impact evaluation.

4. Stakeholder Alignment & Visual Storytelling

  • Translate complex datasets into understandable, actionable visualizations and dashboards.

  • Advise stakeholders from operations to board level in making data-driven decisions.

  • Increase data maturity within MVII through coaching, workshops and presentations.

5. Mentoring & Thought Leadership

  • Take a leading role in further developing the Advanced Analytics team.

  • Coach junior analysts and stimulate professional growth and collaboration.

  • Contribute to the vision of analytics within APMT MVII: from ad hoc analyses to predictive management.

Requirements:

  • 8–10 years of proven experience in data analysis within a complex, technical environment (logistics, supply chain, industry).

  • In-depth experience with integrated datasets, forecasting, performance monitoring and risk modelling.

  • Experience with stakeholder management, data governance and the implementation of analytics solutions in the operation.

  • Affinity with or experience in container terminals or the maritime sector is an advantage.

Technical skills

  • Expert in SQL, data modelling and data structures; experience with SSMS and/or cloud-based data solutions.

  • Experience with Power BI, Python, Excel, PowerPoint.

  • Familiar with agile tools (such as Jira/Confluence) and used to working in multidisciplinary teams.

  • Knowledge of data architecture, validation processes and integration of operational and planning data.

Personal competencies

  • Analytically strong, strategic thinking and persuasive in communication.

  • Practical and result-oriented, with a keen sense of business impact.

  • Proactive connector between data and operation; knows how to convey complexity clearly.

  • Strong presentation and visualization skills.

Education

  • Completed university education in Data Science, Econometrics, Industrial Engineering and Management, Logistics, Mathematics or similar.
