  • The Team

    The Web Buyers team is on a mission to make the Depop website the most diverse progressive home of fashion.

    We want to make it easy to discover new trends, shops and pre-loved items in a sustainable way. This means creating curated, inspiring and inventory lead experiences - starting with our homepage and product pages.

    As Depop grows globally, we need to create a platform that works in every market and language, making internationalisation a key focus for us 2022.

    We are also growing our fullstack skills in 2022, to best build new services or extend existing services to bring entirely new features to the web experience not seen before in app.

    The Role

    As a Senior Engineer in our Web Buyers team, you’ll play a key role leading a team of engineers to contribute to Depop’s mission and goals, helping our community of buyers on the web discover items and sellers they might love. Our engineers work closely with our product, analyst and marketing teams to help define the future direction of the product.

    As a collaborative and fast paced team, you’ll be designing and building high-traffic, scalable systems that service 10,000s of concurrent users, mentor other engineers in the team, while helping drive technical innovation and excellence in the wider web function.

    Our tech stack consists of modern React.js front end, Node.js middleware with micro-services powered backend with AWS technologies communicating through event based architecture. Our teams own their own CICD using Jenkins, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes to move as fast as possible.

    Responsibilities:

    • Architect and implement fullstack features for a complex web application
    • Support and mentor other engineers to develop their own technical skills and abilities
    • Cultivating a strong engineering culture in the team, focused on technical quality, innovation, and professional development
    • Collaborate with Designers, Product Managers, Software Engineers and Analysts to contribute to the team’s product roadmap.
    • Care about what you do, Depop’s mission, the code you write, the products you ship.

    Requirements:

    • Experience designing, building and maintaining modern web apps using front end javascript frameworks - with a focus on performance, stability and scalability.
    • Strong experience in React and Node.js.
    • Knowledge of systems design, within a modern cloud-based environment.
    • Good mentoring experience; we want you to help shape and develop our people.
    • Experience working collaboratively as part of an agile team in a product-driven business.

    Desirables:

    • Experience with a high-level, typed programming language (e.g. Typescript, Java, Go).
    • Familiarity with database technology, such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
