Cobalt provides the world's largest pentesting platform, delivering thousands of pentests per year. Cobalt's Pentest as a Service (PtaaS) platform is modernizing traditional pentesting. By combining a SaaS platform with an exclusive community of testers, we deliver the real-time insights you need to remediate risk quickly and innovate securely. We see the Pentest as a Service model as a first step in our vision to create a new interface to the security workforce. We have seen tremendous traction over the years and today we have 1000+ customers on Cobalt's platform, ranging in size from Fortune 50 companies to emerging tech start-ups.

We are remote-first with local hubs in Austin, Boston, Berlin, and San Francisco. We have Scandinavian roots, an American base and a global outlook. Our team is characterized by a fun, fast-paced and collaborative culture based on individual responsibility and ownership.

We have secured more than $50M in funding from a variety of top flight investors, led by Highland Europe. We are using our funding to expand global usage and continue development of the Cobalt platform, which pioneered the Penetration test as a Service (PtaaS) model.


What’s next? Cobalt is building a data team to empower our employees with a modern data warehouse. As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll expand our existing Data Lake, ensuring that data is delivered to stakeholders with quality at speed. Our Data Lake is the center of gravity for all data processed and generated at Cobalt.

What You'll Do

  • Define Data Models and Architectures, guaranteeing data quality, data security and privacy.

  • Build a robust CICD pipeline for accelerating development and reduce bugs in the development process.

  • Consult with analysts and stakeholders to build and continuously improve a variety of data products that create value for our business.

  • Define analytical pipelines for automating and optimizing Cobalt’s operations.

  • Work in a remote first engineering team (our data team is spread between Berlin and San Francisco).

  • Be an active member of a cross-functional data team that frequently interfaces with business stakeholders.

You Have

  • Experience of 5+ years in building Data Platforms in a Cloud environment.

  • Excellent programming experience in Python (preferred), Scala or Java.

  • Excellent knowledge of SQL.

  • Proven expertise in implementing complex ETL pipelines (BigQuery, Spark, Airflow, etc) on multiple occasions.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative approach to problems.

  • Comfortable in a dynamic and changing environment - strong inclination to take responsibility for your work.

  • A great team player (humble, hungry, smart) with an agile mindset.

  • Experience in Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or custom cloud development kits (e.g., AWS CDK).

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • Ability to work independently and structured with attention to detail.

Bonus If You Have

  • Experience with Serverless, Kubernetes or GCP.

  • Experience with test automation.

  • Experience in the cybersecurity industry / knowledge of best practices.

  • Experience working remotely across multiple time zones.

  • Experience in a fast-growing SaaS company.
