Who are we?

Common sense says that the less someone drives, the less driving should cost them. And we agree. But back in 2018, the car insurance industry didn’t see it like that. So, we launched the UK’s first real-time pay-by-mile policies. Since then, we’ve had our members covered for a massive 500 million miles of driving. It’s been an epic journey (which is a bit ironic, since we’re helping people who don’t use their cars so much).

Along the way, we’ve gone from plucky newcomers, to being voted Best Car Insurance Provider 3 times in a row. Though we’re still very much doing things in our own, unique way - we’re now backed by Direct Line Group (alongside some of the country's best known brands)

Senior Pricing Data Scientist - FTC

We’re looking for a Pricing Data Scientist to help us identify and implement data driven pricing changes enabling us to improve the sophistication of our pricing.

Reporting to the Lead Data Scientist, you’ll be a key part of the By Miles team, rolling out updates that are crucial to achieving our company wide goals and better serving our members. You will be working in partnership with our engineers to deliver automation of model builds throughout the stack to facilitate more frequent updates.

You’ll be a fantastic addition to By Miles if you have:

  • Deep understanding of Python and SQL.

  • The ability to develop pricing models across a range of complexities.

  • The ability to understand things quickly, whilst maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Excellent at collaborating with others, both internally and externally.

  • Confident in making decisions based on the available data and information.

  • Ability to clearly communicate complex ideas to a range of audiences.

  • Independently managing time and priorities, and creating clear documentation.

  • Flexible to adapt to changing priorities.

  • The ability to create predictive models using machine learning and data science techniques.

Day to day you’ll be:

  • Applying advanced analytics and ML techniques to drive customer acquisition, retention, and personalised offerings.

  • Collaborating with various teams to align data strategies with company objectives.

  • Building and refining a range of predictive models to improve pricing accuracy and competitiveness.

  • Performing continuous model validation and monitoring to ensure they remain effective in improving loss ratios and revenue.

  • Setting up monitoring and alerting systems to track model performance and automate updates as needed.

  • Ensuring reports are customisable to meet the specific needs of different users and teams

Salary: £65,000 - £75,000 + flexible benefits

Location: Work from anywhere in the UK, with full access to our offices in London (near London Bridge), Leeds, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Doncaster, Perth, Maidstone, Gloucester, Farnham and Peterborough.
