About the Role

Brightpearl by Sage exists to automate retail. We manage over 10m transactions and $2bn of business a year with our cloud platform. We are looking for a talented Technical Architect to join the team.

The Technical Architect is a hands-on architect role within Brightpearl engineering, working as part of one of our teams to deliver innovative solutions in the SaaS Retail operations space. Brightpearl Engineering teams are domain owners building microservices to operate within the Brightpearl ecosystem. This is a technical leadership role, providing direction and mentoring other engineers within the team. Engineers collaborate across teams and through our architecture guild to advance and evolve our technology stack.

About the team
Our engineering teams in Bristol and globally designed, built, and cared for our products and services. Each team owns a slice of the product portfolio in close collaboration with product managers. We believe in letting teams self-organise and self-determine by supporting them with design and project expertise when needed.

Your day-to-day

  • Work in a small cross-functional agile team to build new features, improve existing features, prototype new architectures and applications, improve our SaaS infrastructure, develop in-house tools or integrate with partner services.
  • Work closely with engineers, SDETs, performance analysts, business analysts, system administrators, product managers, customers, and partners.
  • Provide technical leadership for a team of developers - offering guidance on best practices, mentoring/coaching, improving team delivery
  • Create technical plans that deliver against the vision and architecture strategy
  • Own the technical solution design, architecture decisions and governance for in scope technology
  • Successfully develop, deliver and maintain high-quality software (requirements, design, code, documentation, etc.)

Requirements

What are we looking for in our new Technical Architect?

  • Knows and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures of software architecture.
  • Strong technical background demonstrating the ability to lead the design and development of complex distributed systems
  • Complex problem-solving ability
  • Passion for being hands-on polyglot techie
  • Ability to document requirements and specifications in software architecture
  • Deep knowledge of around building global products
  • Knowledgeable in operationalizing 21st Century trends like Cloud, Social, Mobility, IoT, Big Data, …
  • Knowledgeable of implementing Architecture Best Practices and Patterns like Microservices, CQRS, Event Sourcing, Domain-Driven Design
  • Deep understanding of agile methodologies incorporating BDD, DevOps, CI and CD
  • Experienced in at least some of the technologies and languages we use, Golang, Java, React, Cucumber, Gatling, PHP, Docker, Spring, BDD, Gitlab, GoCD, RabbitMQ, DDD, Kafka, K8s, AWS, Atlassian with a keen eye for learning what you don’t already know
