About the Role

As Director of Product Marketing, you’ll report to the Chief Marketing Officer and will be responsible for product marketing Brightpearl and Inventory Planner products while leading a small team of product marketers. Your main objective will be to become an expert in how our customers’ needs, challenges, and goals relate to Brightpearl and Inventory Planner’s value propositions.

You'll be successful in this role if you enjoy being a hands-on, player-coach in a start-up-like environment but want the stability of working within a stable global organization. Brightpearl was acquired by Sage. Read about it here:

You'll pivot from highly strategic to executing and will be responsible for understanding how and where product marketing can be impactful now and in the future across the organization. This requires tactical and operational aptitude that involves owning and executing important day-to-day tasks. What does that mean? We need someone who knows how to show initiative and offer unique ideas that drive the business forward. But also, someone who genuinely enjoys rolling up their sleeves and working alongside colleagues to achieve team objectives.

This is a highly cross-functional role that works closely with sales and marketing teams as well as customer success, partnerships, and product teams.

  • You’ll collaborate closely with the marketing team (demand generation, PR and brand, customer marketing, campaign managers, product marketers) to develop innovative campaigns and product launches that drive demand and increase adoption.
  • You’ll work with the sales team (BDRs, Account Executives, Solution Engineers, sales enablement) to ensure our positioning and messaging resonates with prospects and highlights our differentiators so we can drive pipeline growth and revenue.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Be a market expert on our buyers (who they are, how they buy, etc.) and the competitive landscape (who they are, how they’re positioned, etc.)
  • Collaborate, plan, and execute marketing campaigns by offering creative ideas and owning/managing PMM tasks.
  • Craft meaningful value propositions based on new products and releases of existing products, while managing, planning, and executing GTM and commercialization efforts of those releases.
  • Develop internal enablement tools (sales presentations, competitive battle cards, etc.) and external collateral (one-pagers, webinars, etc.) that assist our sales and partnership teams.
  • Be a product evangelist and enthusiastic spokesperson who can speak with internal audiences as well as external stakeholders (customers, press, analysts, podcasts, etc.)
  • Build meaningful relationships with the sales team by acting as a key contributor and expert on the Brightpearl and Inventory Planner target markets and product ecosystems.
  • Own the customer communications around product roadmap updates including management, planning, and participation in product roadmap webinars and other relevant activities.
  • Coaching and developing your 2 product marketers (direct reports) on the product, market, and competition while providing 1:1 feedback and monitoring their performance.
  • Recruit and hire an additional 1-3 PMMs based on the achievement of the company’s product and corporate strategy.

Your First 30, 60, and 90 days

  • 30 days:
    • Meet 1:1 with your new colleagues in marketing, sales, partnerships, and product management to learn more about how you’ll collaborate together. Schedule recurring meetings with the most impactful stakeholders to continue to build the relationship.
    • Get familiar with our customers and the market by listening to sales and partnership prospecting and discovery calls.
    • Work with the sales enablement team to begin updating and adding new competitive content in our competitive enablement tool.
    • Review recent marketing content (reports, blogs, one-pagers, podcasts, customer stories, etc.) to understand the retail and e-commerce markets.
  • By 60 days your priority will be:
    • To take the insight and knowledge you gained in the first 30 days about the market and our customers and learn what our products do and why they exist.
    • To get familiar with the products by listening to sales demonstration calls.
    • To understand our product strategy and how it relates to the company’s messaging and positioning.
    • To learn about our ideal customer and how Brightpearl and Inventory Planner support their business needs.
  • By 90 days you will feel better equipped to:
    • Speak in detail to internal (sales, marketing) and external (customers, partners, press) stakeholders about what the product does and the challenges it solves/opportunities it creates.
    • Plan and help execute the next product roadmap webinar to current customers.
    • Take ownership of PMM tasks related to launches, sales deliverables, and competitive intelligence management.
