Master student in the field of Flight Control Laws (d/f/m) for the Robustness Evaluation and Comparison of PI and NDI controller of a highly-agile aircraft

The department Flight Control Laws of Airbus Defence & Space in Manching is responsible for the development of flight control algorithms for the company's aircraft projects.

The department offers an opportunity for a master thesis on design of control laws of a generic high-performance aircraft.

The description of the aircraft, i.e. the aerodynamic and flight-dynamics model already exists in a Matlab-Simulink environment and it is based on the ADMIRE model, a publicly available research model with a flight envelope up to low supersonic Mach numbers.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Familiarization with the existing aircraft model and the simulation environment.

  • Analytical derivation PI controller and linearization

  • Analytical derivation NDI controller and linearization

  • Open-Loop Trim at dedicated locations of envelope

  • Robustness analysis PI and NDI controller

  • Evaluation and discussions of differences

  • Master thesis documentation.

Desired skills and qualifications

  • Enrolled full-time student in the area of Aeronautical Engineering, Control System Engineering or an equivalent field of study.

  • Fluent in English, German is a plus.

  • Knowledge on flight dynamics and control law design

  • Experience with Matlab / Simulink

  • Basic knowledge in C/C++, FORTRAN or another higher-order language

  • Basic knowledge with LINUX
