Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for an Electromagnetic Hazards Lightning Direct Effects Engineer (f/m) to join our team based in Toulouse, France. The EMH Lightning Direct Effects (LDE) group is a highly specialised and transnational team of engineers working within the Airbus Systems Engineering Design Office.

We contribute to all Aircraft programmes and all phases of development, from R&T and concept, through development and certification, to inservice support of the flying fleet in the fields of Lightning Direct Effects, Electrostatic Discharge and Electrical Bonding.

We support AIRBUS Commercial and cross division (e.g. Airbus Helicopters, Airbus Defence and Space, Airbus Canada), as we guide them to design safe, mature and robust systems in all programmes.

Your challenges:

  • YOU will contribute to our work as a System Engineer in the field of EMH Lightning Direct Effects (LDE) and Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) within the Airbus System Engineering domain,

  • YOUR mission will be to influence and trade aircraft architectures and aircraft structures and systems to achieve optimised solutions that are resistant to lightning strike attachment damage and fuel vapour ignition hazards.

  • YOU will validate the compliance of designs against requirements in accordance to the airworthiness regulations

  • YOU will design and define commissioning or investigative tests, with the opportunity to interact with the test laboratories and witness testing, concluding such activities with the delivery of analysis of test results and conclusions.

  • YOU will be responsible for the definition and implementation of LDE and ESD requirements for new systems including the identification of applicable certification requirements.

  • YOU will contribute to aircraft system architectures and will analyse them in regards to LDE protection and will follow-up activities within the certification process.

  • YOU will support the definition of work scope for LDE and ESD related activities for internal and sub-contract partners and will be responsible for the follow-up and steering of the engineering activities.

These tasks will develop your knowledge in the overall aircraft architecture, the system competence and the understanding of aircraft certification activities and processes.

Your boarding pass:

  • 2-5 years experience in Electromagnetic Hazards/Compatibility

  • Engineering degree educated in aeronautical engineering, electrical engineering, physics or similar educations required

  • Strong electrical and physical understanding

  • Appreciation of Airframe architecture

  • Desire to continuously learn and evolve personally and technically

  • Analytic capability, curiosity and interest in electrical engineering

  • Good communication skills and ability to simplify complexity

  • Solution oriented way of working and anticipation mindset

  • Team spirit to continuously strengthen the transnational mindset and exchange

  • Negotiation level in English
