What you will be doing:

As a Craft Aerostructures Apprentice you will have the opportunity to combine hands-on technical experience in the workplace whilst completing your academic studies to gain valuable qualifications and competencies to work on live aircraft. You will also have the opportunity to join our Gen A support network who provide support and additional events and opportunities for all Early careers participants.

The three year apprenticeship consists of:

Year 1: You will spend the first 12 months of your apprenticeship based at Coleg Cambria, Deeside, working towards obtaining:

  • NVQ Level 2 diploma in Performing Engineering Operations;

  • City and Guild 2675 Level 2 in In Aircraft engineering;

  • Level 2 Essential Skills.

This will allow you to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to enable you to make an immediate contribution when you enter the workforce in the second year.

Years 2 and 3: Time to put your learning to action!

  • You will be based at Airbus’s Broughton (North Wales) site, working within the wing production areas on 6 monthly rotations, gaining experience in different areas;

  • The tasks will be varied and require you to use different skills in order to complete them successfully;

  • You will assist in manufacturing the wings for our Single Aisle and Wide body families by assisting operations in work packages to manufacture these wings, which will include setting of templates and jigs, drilling, bolting, final fitting and assembly of the wing box components (spars, stringers, ribs, pylons, wing skins etc);

  • Additionally there may be the opportunity for some of you to transfer over to our systems apprenticeship where you will work on the installation and testing of the Aircraft flying controls, fuel and electrical systems.

You will also attend college on day release, working towards gaining:

  • Level 3 NVQ Extended Diploma (Aeronautical Engineering);

  • Advanced Manufacturing Engineering BTEC L3 certificate.

On completion of your 38 months apprenticeship you will become a skilled aircraft fitter, working on the drill off and assembly of both metallic and composite components to produce the wing box structure on our world class Airbus aircraft and if successful you will receive a certificate of modern apprenticeship!

Requirements:

In order to be eligible to this apprenticeship you must achieve a minimum of five GCSEs, which must include the following minimum grades:

  • Grade C or 4 in Maths;

  • Grade C or 4 in English Language;

  • Grade C or 4 in Single Award in Physics OR Grade CC or 44 in Double Award Science;

  • Plus 2 other GCSEs at grade C or 4;

  • Other qualifications that are equivalent or higher may be considered as an alternative to the additional 2 GCSE’s (subject to validation).

  • Have a passion for learning, enjoy hands-on, teamwork and problem solving activities

  • Include your CV stating your predicted or achieved grades in your application;

  • Include your Cover Letter stating your motivation for this role in your application.

Important Information:

GRADES: Please note for all applicants your offer will be conditional until we receive evidence of the required grades prior to the 31st August 2025, and in addition completing all pre-employment appointments and online forms.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Eligibility to gain UK SC Security Clearance OR You will be subject to a BPSS check (including a criminal record check).

Our apprenticeship roles do not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas & Immigration to enable sponsorship of migrant workers.
