Off the back of our latest fundraise, ambition we have decided to bring in a Chief People Officer to sit on the executive leadership team and help steer Ably through the next stage of its journey.

Ideally based within commutable distance to London and reporting directly to the Co-founder and CEO, you will set and implement a strategy that maps directly to business objectives. You will be a trusted advisor and confidante to the cofounders, as well as to the other members of the leadership team, working closely with them to help steer Ably through the next stage of its journey as it shifts to a scale-up with a strong management capability and empowered decision making.

You will be a key champion and enabler of the cultural and performance evolution that such a rapid pace of growth both drives and requires. A few of the immediate priorities are outlined below:

  • L&D – creating frameworks that run across the business, coaching, clear development plans, and making sure management skills are developed at all levels to drive continuous improvement.

  • Performance Management – managing and driving performance across all levels of the organisation, using data-driven metrics and KPIs aligned with business strategy.

  • Compensation & benefits – creating, implementing, and communicating a transparent and consistent levelling and salary banding across the business, making sure we're positioned well to attract and retain the best talent.

  • Recruitment and Employer Brand – making sure that we have a clear hiring strategy and plan in place to attract and on-board the best talent, as well as the resource, and developing our employer brand to do so; enabling more effective and proactive recruitment planning, especially for more senior roles.

  • Retention – Making sure Ably is a great place to work, identifying the key signals and behaviours that lead to churn and having a clear plan in place to proactively address any issues; implementing manager training programs.

  • Celebrating Success – identifying and delivering company-wide initiatives to celebrate success for the business, be that achieving financial goals, winning industry awards, delivering high quality work and outcomes for clients, newsletters, and events, going the extra mile, etc.

  • Communication – Making clear and consistent People/HR-related messaging across the business and time zones, and within a remote-first business

  • Remote-first Working – Making sure that Ably excels as a remote-first business, by encouraging ways of working and communicating that leverage this advantage, using this to help our staff have more flexible working arrangements and a healthy work/life balance, whilst still encouraging teams to to meet in person in our physical hubs for social events, planning, whiteboarding etc.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Generalist HR experience – You will be an experienced, generalist HR leader with solid depth of knowledge across the entire HR remit, including L&D, business partnering, recruiting, and planning, org design, performance management, compensation and benefits, employee engagement and experience, learning and development, and HR operations.

  • Highly strategic, but equally hands on and execution focused – You will have a strong strategic mindset, with exceptional clarity of thought and the ability to analyse, solve complex problems, and challenge the status quo; but will also bring a hands-on approach, be close to the detail, and be highly execution-focused, understanding how to strike the balance.

  • Scaling and high-growth experience – You will have been in businesses going through comparable scaling journeys, and preferably beyond. Will have managed through the challenges and opportunities presented by high-growth and be able to surface the lessons learnt. You will have implemented a scalable and sustainable people strategy and helped to evolve a culture whilst growing and diversifying the organisation. May have had exposure to VC-backed/PE-owned environments.

  • People leadership is a critical component of this role. The Chief People Officer will be an outstanding leader who will set the highest standards in terms of hiring, training and development, retention, and employee satisfaction.

  • Experience in a B2B or B2C digital/technology company – You will have worked in either a B2B or B2C digital/technology business and therefore understand the respective roles and functions, and therefore be able to support and challenge the respective functional leaders.

  • Experience in international businesses and working with geographically dispersed teams – You will ideally have proven multi-country experience, ideally operating on a global basis.
