Visiting researcher
3–4 days/week at home
A little flex time
Job Description
At Signal AI we want to help organisations identify risks and opportunities and see movements in the market before anyone else. We want to help leaders take bold decisions, safe that the data is on their side. We want to connect all those external data points together, uncover the unknown unknowns, and be at the very heart of the knowledge economy.
We’ve already built a world-class artificial intelligence platform for real-time information aggregation and analysis at a massive scale. We proved our value with monitoring and measurement products in the PR&Comms space, and are now joining the dots beyond.
We are friendly and informal people who are passionate about our brand as we all have a stake in our success. We have an inclusive environment, welcoming the skills and experience from many diverse backgrounds, and together we have created who we are and what we sell. We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive for the unknown.
We have just completed a $50M D series led by Highland Europe plus previous backers Redline, MMC and Hearst and Guardian Media Group - this brings our total funding to date to around $100M.
About the role:
As a visiting researcher you will join us for a few months (up to 6 months) to carry out research projects with well-defined scopes. Answering the research questions set out for these projects helps us reduce uncertainty and shape up our roadmaps (for example understanding the feasibility of certain techniques, or estimating the complexity of improving the performance of a certain AI component).
You will work within one of our product-development teams. Our teams are autonomous and cross-functional encompassing every role required to build and improve on our products in whatever way we see best.
You will be supported by senior researchers in the team and you will be collaborating with engineers and product managers in the team to help you better understand the problem space and to communicate your ideas and findings.
Requirements
You should apply if:
- You’re a PhD student in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing or related area, who wants to gain experience in working within the industry.
- You have good communication skills with the ability to proactively liaise with key technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- You have demonstrated software development skills in Python and you are comfortable pairing with engineers.
Nice to have:
- experience using AWS or similar cloud offerings
At Signal, we strongly believe that diverse teams perform better. We are committed to building and fostering an inclusive environment where our employees feel welcomed, valued and listened to - an environment where they can thrive being their true selves.

The FlexScore® is the result of a rigorous 2-step verification of a company’s flexibility
First we assess the flexibility options Signal AI provides and then we anonymously survey a statistically significant proportion of their employees to make sure Signal AI is as flexible as they say they are. We ask the hard questions so you don’t have to.
