We are a data-first start-up on a mission to make insurance work better for commercial transportation fleets. We make risk visible and price insurance by the second so businesses can focus on what they do best: move people and goods safely.

Our core platform utilises streaming telematics data and adjusts insurance pricing in real-time reacting to the driver's usage, behaviour and environment to enable us to offer previously impossible insurance products.

What will you be responsible for?

  • You will be an essential part of an award-winning venture-backed and rapidly growing InsurTech.
  • Leading the Data Engineering team from a technical and management perspectives, planning and prioritising work, driving design decisions alongside senior members of the team and coaching other more junior ones
  • Building and deploying data processing pipelines for IoT data
  • Creation of reusable data models
  • Designing and building scalable services that integrate with a large range of data providers
  • Leveraging data analytics frameworks that serve Petabyte-scale data insights to customers
  • Release testing and productionising new components

We want you because you

  • Have Scala development experience of at least 2 years
  • Work with Open Source data processing frameworks like Spark and/or Flink
  • Have experience with Event Driven Architectures built around Kafka
  • Have worked before with Kubernetes as a developer including containerisation of apps, and service and deployment definition
  • Have experience using Elasticsearch, InfluxDB, Aerospike and other enterprise grade NoSQL databases from a data design and integration perspectives
  • Strongly believe in automation and good testing practices
  • Have expertise in performance tuning and service monitoring
  • Have led a team before or are willing to undertake team leadership responsibilities

A great candidate would have experience with:

  • Modern data warehousing (Hive, Kylin or Presto)
  • Prometheus and Grafana

Soft Skills:

  • Good communicator
  • An eagerness to learn
  • Good explainer: can make the complex simple
