Life at Elvie - Meaningful work. Exceptional people

At Elvie, we don’t believe women's bodies are the problem. Instead, we believe the problem is that the needs of women’s bodies – and therefore, lives – have been ignored, misunderstood, and underestimated.

Founded by Tania Boler in 2013, Elvie has been improving women's lives through better – and smarter – technology ever since. We develop innovations that meet the unique needs and complexities of the female body so that women can take charge of their health across every life stage.

Our first product, Elvie Trainer, is a multi-award-winning device bringing hospital-grade pelvic floor care to the hands of women everywhere— it was even a gift in the Oscar Nominee Goody Bags! And now, we're proud to say that we're part of the NHS Supply Chain in the UK.

Our second innovation was Elvie Pump. Launched in 2019, it's the world's first silent, wearable breast pump, enabling women to pump wherever they please— even the catwalk at London Fashion Week. It’s since won numerous awards, including the Times 100 Best Inventions of 2019 and ‘Wearable Design of the Year’ at the Dezeen Awards. The initial success of our wellness tools gave us the means to expand our breastfeeding range to include Elvie Curve and Elvie Catch, both designed to give mothers total comfort and confidence.

As a business, Elvie has received more than 30 awards (including the prestigious Red Dot Design award). We’re ranked as one of the 15 startups ‘To Watch’ by The Sunday Times and Business Insider and ranked as the 13th fastest growing business in the UK by Syndicate Room. Our founder and CEO, Tania Boler, is regularly profiled in top-tier media titles, and, in 2021, Tania was named GLAMOUR’s Women of the Year: Technology Gamechanger.

In July 2021, Elvie announced an $80 million Series C funding, the number one position and biggest raise in an initial fundraising round in the femtech category.

About the role

As a Product Researcher at Elvie you’ll be embedded within the Product Team, helping to drive product development in the right direction and ensuring women are at the centre of everything we do.

Over the course of your career with us you will have the opportunity to work on projects that span the entire R&D timeline, before and beyond. This will range from early exploratory stage projects where you’re helping to understand the right thing to design, to later stage technical and evaluative projects centred around designing the thing right.

We’re looking for a hands-on mid-senior level Product Researcher who can take on complex research projects, work with hardware, software and connected devices and who treats their work with artistry and passion.

If you’re excited about this position but don’t fit 100% of the criteria, we would love to hear from you regardless. We love nothing more than finding unexpected gems!

As part of our inquisitive Research Team, you'll be one of our go-to question answers within the Product team and to the wider business.

What you’ll be doing

  • Take a research brief, help define objectives, develop appropriate methodology, conduct fieldwork and analyse outputs to create actionable recommendations, whilst being mindful of budget and time constraints.
  • Carry out foundational, strategic research to help discover, define and shape our future products and services - utilising both qualitative and quantitative research methods while doing so.
  • Carry out desk research - be it social listening or digging into competitor product offerings, you’ll be able to delve away and glean as much as you can from the comfort of your desk.
  • Understand from source - our research tends to be intimate in nature and carried out in users' homes so a comfortable and approachable manner are essential qualities. You will be carrying out qualitative research remotely and in person. This research can range from exploratory scoping to usability testing.
  • Our research often covers sensitive and intimate topics around all things female-health. You should be able to take a considered approach to these conversations, protecting both the participants and yourself.
  • Map the experience - we involve participants at every stage of the process, you’ll be working with participants using functional prototypes and helping translate the insights that propel the project forward.
  • Keep us informed - your work should result in actionable outputs to help us create exceptional experiences. Outputs will take various forms, including research reports, archetypes, user journeys and more! You should be comfortable presenting learnings to stakeholders across the business.
  • Collaborate - you will be a part of the Product team with many different craft and project teams within it. You will need to work smart, bringing in the right people at the right time.

Requirements

In order to thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Comfortable with uncertainty - product development often throws in curveballs, taking these calmly in your stride is a must
  • Flexible - as the project needs change you will need to be prepared to bend and flex your approach and/or working pattern, whilst maintaining the integrity of the research. We often conduct international research which can either mean working shifted hours or travel outside the UK (Covid-19 dependent)
  • A clear communicator - you will take the information provided by the team and translate the information so participants can complete the studies in the exact way we need them to
  • Discerning - you should be able to balance your understanding of our user, with the needs of the product team, to ensure the studies are manageable for the user while providing the data we need to make our next decision
  • Resilient - we often enter topic areas in the women’s health space that are hard for participants to speak about and in turn, difficult for researchers to hear
  • A creative thinker - we have been known to use weird and wonderful methods to best answer the question at hand. Creative, ingenious methods and ways of working are always welcome!
