THE ROLE

Reporting to the Data Scientist Lead, we are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join Farfetch in building the next-generation intelligent platform for online luxury fashion, powered by large-scale data and Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Information Retrieval, and Natural Language Processing algorithms. You will join a team of Data Scientists, Engineers, and Product Designers to help build and increase, through research and experimentation, our data-driven products.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Develop algorithms in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Information Retrieval (IR), with a focus on search relevance;
  • Act as a domain expert for a wider team of Data Scientists;
  • Conduct practical research with a scientific mindset, and a focus on delivery;
  • Work with the engineering team to integrate machine learning (ML) algorithms into the platform;
  • Help in the design of new features in the product, and inspire creativity inside the company;
  • Scientific and technical publications are possible and encouraged

WHO YOU ARE

  • MSc or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline, such as Machine Learning, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or another related area;
  • At least 4 years' experience in a Data Science role, with significant experience in e-commerce search;
  • A thorough understanding of ML, statistics, and IR;
  • Experienced in applying modern models and techniques for NLP tasks, such as embeddings, named entity recognition, and entity linking;
  • Fluent in Python and its Data Science, ML, and NLP packages (numpy, pandas, matplotlib, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, nltk, spacy, gensim);
  • Experienced in developing ML software for production;
  • Knowledge of IR technologies, such as ElasticSearch and Lucene.
  • Familiar with SQL and preferably Google BigQuery;
  • Skilled in producing rigorous and convincing analyses in order to drive effective decisions and inform technical and non-technical stakeholders;
  • Proficient in English (written and spoken).
