Job Description

Head of GCP Engineering

CTS is looking to hire a Head of GCP Engineering for our growing GCP team. This lead role offers an exciting opportunity for someone able to provide a balance of technical knowledge and commercial experience. You’ll be a key part of our GCP Leadership Team, growing and scaling our GCP capability.

You’ll work alongside our CTO and other technologists and leaders in making sure we sell and deliver ever more astonishing cloud solutions to our clients.

As our Head of GCP Engineering, your direct team members will be technical team leads. They’ll have smart engineers and other client-facing roles within their teams. This team delivers exciting projects on GCP to end customers, covering K8s architecture work, data engineering to application modernisation.

Whilst you will be seen as a figurehead for your team internally and externally, you will have a passion for developing others, and helping them to shine. You will be a smart technologist with a broad understanding of cloud computing and a passion for Google tech. You’ll also be commercially savvy with the ability to position our services and devise and review complex statements of work in an efficient and pragmatic way.

You will help to define solutions to new potential opportunities, and ensure the team consistently delivers high quality engagements - and ultimately customer success - with GCP.

The success of this role will be defined by:

  • The morale and career development of your team, measured through their engagement.
  • Consistent sales growth, inline or exceeding our targets for the GCP team, and driving healthy margins.
  • Customer satisfaction with the GCP services delivered by CTS.

We expect a lot of growth within the GCP team in the coming months and years. If you’re excited by growth, change and opportunity, this is a great role to consider.

What you’ll do:

Leadership

  • From recruitment to career development, build and lead a team of consulting team leaders, focused on GCP project excellence, whilst championing our culture and focus on social change and diversity.
  • Ensure your team members, and their team members, have appropriate assets, skills and support. Set their L&D learning paths, working with the People Team.
  • Ensure strong alignment and collaboration with the CTO’s community of Cloud Architects.
  • Inspiring and managing the team performance to ensure we are Google’s best partner for GCP implementations.

Technology

  • Act as a technical decision maker on cross disciplinary projects; engineers don’t always agree - leaving you to understand the requirements and come to a decision based on strong technical points of view.
  • Work with the delivery team leads and the CTO of GCP to define our technology standards, principles and roadmap.

Implementation & Customer Satisfaction

  • Have accountability for the quality of Low Level Design (LLDs) your team will deliver, with close collaboration with the presales teams delivering High Level Designs and their successful implementation.
  • Ultimately, you’ll be responsible for the technical / design success of your team's GCP projects.
  • Have a keen eye for detail over metrics, processes and materials to support the GCP engagements.
  • Communicate with customers as the point of escalation for issues arising with projects or support assigned to your team. You would work closely with Project Managers and Account Managers to communicate effectively with customers.

Pre-Sales

  • Assist our presales team with the commercial aspects of converting a proposal into a persuasive statement of work that delivers for all parties.
  • Articulate the value of CTS to external parties during the pre-sales process.

Thought Leadership

  • Provide thought leadership along with your team on the adoption of GCP (and the relevant Open Source / ISV) technologies, both supporting others and personally delivering talks, whitepapers and other materials..

Key Skills:

  • Clear documented experience of leading a team(s) that focus on delivering technology projects to external paying customers.
  • Experience and passion for cloud computing enabled transformation and its potential for positive impact for our customers.
  • Track record of successful project delivery and of maintaining productivity and motivation within teams.
  • A deep commitment to outcomes that make our clients happy and allow CTS to grow sustainably.
  • Exposure to the commercial aspects of customer proposals and pricing models in a consulting business.
  • Currently hold, or have held in the last 2 years, professional level certifications for GCP, AWS or Azure.

Location:

You’ll be remote based primarily, with occasional travel to customer sites in the UK and occasional travel to CTS offices in Manchester and London.

What you’ll get:

In addition to the competitive salary, you’ll get private health insurance and company contributed pensions as standard.

We have a multitude of other benefits, including a market leading parental leave policies, health & wellbeing initiatives and access to a discounts and rewards programme (including discounted gym membership)

You’ll be invited to the bi-annual international company ‘kick off’ conferences, which are a great chance to meet your colleagues that you don’t see everyday.
