About the role...
In this newly created position, the successful applicant will get the chance to take ownership of the tax function at Currencycloud as it continues to grow by moving into new markets and geographies. The role encompasses responsibility for global compliance with tax legislation and collaborating with other teams across the business on areas where tax treatment is material to the company and our customers.
The Tax Manager will report into the VP Finance and would suit candidates who have a strong technical background, excellent team working skills as well as a commercial, problem solving mindset.
Key Responsibilities
Lead development of global tax strategy, including the corporate structure required to underpin international growth and transfer pricing
Work on projects alongside a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including tax advisors where required to identify tax opportunities and risks and implement process improvements resulting from them
Take responsibility for direct tax compliance in all territories where the Group has an operational presence
Manage the indirect tax reporting process, including preparing and submitting VAT returns and assessing current and future US Sales Tax obligations
Provide support to Payroll and People teams on employment tax matters, including those stemming from equity incentive plans offered to our staff
Support tax aspects from any in Due Diligence exercises, either for fundraising or M&A purposes
Monitor for any changes to tax legislation which affect the Group’s operations, assess their impact and implement change where necessary
Manage the preparation of R&D claims
Provide internal Technical advice to teams involved in product development and go-to-market strategy, such as whether new services would class as a taxable supply
Support financial and statutory financial accounting
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Be a qualified CTA or have an Accountancy qualification with a tax background
Have a deep understanding of the UK indirect & direct tax environment, US experience is desirable
Have gained experience of working within practice or an inhouse tax department, experience within the payments/fintech industry is a plus
Be a proven self starter, able to take ownership of the Group’s risk function and set the agenda to support a fast growth, geographically diverse business
Able to demonstrate superb project management skills
Proficient in condensing technical information and communicating clearly with non-finance colleagues
Able to engage with and influence stakeholders and work collaboratively
Have an analytical mindset and be dedicated to finding the solution to complex problems
