Financial Accountant

This is a critical high-profile role, reporting to the Financial Controller.  You will be responsible  for financial reporting for the company and business partner to a number of cost centres.  You will be able to deputise for the FC from time to time. Your mission will be to shape the processes and controls to produce best in class timely, accurate and informative financial reporting whilst building a strong control environment and high level of service to internal customers. Initially you will mentor one junior member of staff who will have a dotted line into you.  As the company and the finance team grows you will take on direct management of others.

Responsibilities:

Implement and champion policy and procedures over Customer set up, Procurement, Contracts, Travel, Subsistence and Entertainment spend and spend desk cardsImplement and maintain Delegation of Authority Matrix for approval of expenditure and contractsOwn financial accounting policies for revenue and cost recognition - provide guidance on the application of technical accounting standards

Budgeting and forecastingImplement and maintain  cash flow and balance sheet forecast on a rolling 12 month basisManage rolling forecast process across the teamPrepare budgets and rolling forecasts for assigned cost centres and provide in-depth financial analysis to senior management of cost centresAct as the cost centres Finance Director - guiding them through all financial matters

Projects:Automation of Financial Reporting - researching, assessing and presenting options to the CFO and then leading the implementation.

CORE EXPERIENCEACA or ACCA Qualified with relevant experience in monthly financial accounting acquired in industryExperienced user of accounting software in particular XeroExpert user of excel and/or google sheets with demonstrable knowledge of how and when to use complex formula (Look up, Index arrays, IFS, IF, Sumif), pivot tables to create spreadsheets models which are easy to audit, update and reviewHigh attention to detail and accuracyAbility to work independently without supervision to complete tasks; but enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues as part of a high performing and supportive team

Financial Reporting:

  • Own Month End preparation of Consolidated, Company and divisional Management Accounts to include P&L, BS and Cash flow statements
  • Create and maintain supporting working papers to clearly analyse and reconcile all nominal accounts
  • Improve upon and maintain Google Sheet Reporting packs for Consolidated, Company and Divisional management accounts
  • Own the preparation of Statutory Accounts and Audit thereof
  • Primary contact with Auditors (UK) and Accountants (US)
  • Produce month end variance analysis and commentary on assigned cost centres for review with cost centre owners

Investor Reporting - Preparation of:

  • Monthly Board Pack 
  • Investor Reporting

Taxes - Preparation of and submission of:

  • Corporation Tax
  • R&D Tax Credit Claims
  • PAYE and NICVAT

Governance

Core Experience:

  • ACA or ACCA Qualified with relevant experience in monthly financial accounting acquired in industry
  • Experienced user of accounting software, in particular Xero
  • Expert user of excel and/or google sheets with demonstrable knowledge of how and when to use complex formula (Look up, Index arrays, IFS, IF, Sumif), pivot tables to create spreadsheets models which are easy to audit, update and review
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently without supervision to complete tasks; but enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues as part of a high performing and supportive team
