Principal Product Manager

Flexible hours

At Impala, our products are powering applications from start-up to enterprise and we’re now moving on to the next phase of development, evolving Impala’s offering from two disparate but powerful products into a fully-fleshed out platform that the next century of travel is built on, Impala Journey.

As the Principal Product Manager for Journey you’ll have full responsibility for the design, development and distribution of the platform.

Hi - Ben from Impala here.

This isn’t how we normally start job descriptions (take a look over here for that) but that’s because this isn’t a normal position at Impala.

You may remember us as one of the best companies in London to work for (here) or as one of the Top 50 start-ups in Europe to watch this year (here). Either way we’re a company that gets annoyed by only two things; bad travel, closed platforms and off by one errors.

Impala is the company that empowers innovators to build next generation travel experiences on top of best in class APIs. Think Twilio or Plaid for travel.

Our products are powering applications from start-up to enterprise and we’re now moving on to the next phase of development, evolving Impala’s offering from two disparate but powerful products into a fully-fleshed out platform that the next century of travel is built on, Impala Journey.

As the Principal Product Manager for Journey you’ll have full responsibility for the design, development and distribution of the platform.

  • You’ll architect, strategise and design how people experience travel for decades to come.
  • You’ll think deeply about the traveller journey and how Impala’s products can offer a seamless experience.
  • You’ll be the dotted line for teams of product managers and designers all working with you to help bring your vision to life.
  • You’ll liaise with some of the largest travel sellers in the world and super small developers to build a platform that works for them.
  • You’ll report directly to the CEO (me, the narrator).

Here’s why you should join us:

  • Our team is world-class. You’ll be working with the best and brightest the world has to offer. They’re also incredible humans.
  • We’ve been remote-first since 2017 and know how to do it. We care about thinking deeply about the workplace.
  • We’re the market leader in an enormous and interesting market and our success criteria is powering 2 billion better trips per year.
  • We’re early enough that you’ll make a truly meaningful difference (< 70 people) and well funded enough (Series B, > $30m raised total) that you won’t be resource constrained.

We also have a benefits package that’s second-to-none and pay top-of-market.

Skills you’ll absolutely need:

  • You’ll need to be a true first-principles thinker that is programmed to ask whether the way things are the way they should be and smart enough to satisfactorily answer the question.
  • Strong leadership skills, you’re able to lead without authority and understand how you achieve that on a low level.
  • You’re a strategic executor. You’re someone that is as comfortable discussing the advantages of going long on debates around pricing strategy as you are hacking together early landing pages.
  • Comfortable with early product design. You believe that a Product Manager is responsible for the early sketches of a new product.
  • You’re an incredible active listener and customer developer. You’re extremely comfortable on customer calls.
  • You’re a natural storyteller and deeply understanding of how to position a product.

Experience you’ll have:

  • You must have led large products before and have demonstrated that you are capable of working through others.
  • You must have launched brand new products before to significant success (and learnings!).
  • You must have worked on developer facing products before.

We’re here to change the way you work

You’ll have your own reasons for wanting flexibility. We have ours too.
