As Senior Art Director at Farfetch Platform Solutions (FPS), you will play a pivotal role in our creative vision to deliver exceptional creative solutions for FPS clients and develop our range of Creative Services. You will be responsible for creative output and innovation across all areas of the FPS portfolio, working across BAU Ecommerce and Creative Projects and ensuring that every asset created conveys luxury and quality. Working alongside a small team of Associate AD’s, photographers, stylists and retouching leads, the Senior Art Director will have extensive industry experience across Ecommerce, Editorial and Video and will be able to share best practices in order to develop the technical and creative capabilities of the growing Studio team. The role spans BAU Ecommerce for Platform clients (comprising On-Model and Stills product photography) in addition to the expanding Creative Service portfolio (360 photography, Ecommerce Product Video and Editorial level content creation at present).

Our London office is located in Old Street, London’s tech hub, home to a broad range of teams including Commercial, Marketing, and Product. We have large open plan spaces and a feature staircase connecting our 3 floors, encouraging our collaborative and open culture. We also have a big outdoor terrace where we can have lunch and host social events when the sun comes out!

Working alongside a small team of Associate AD’s, photographers, stylists and retouching leads, the Senior Art Director will have extensive industry experience across Ecommerce, Editorial and Video and will be able to share best practices in order to develop the technical and creative capabilities of the growing Studio team. The role spans BAU Ecommerce for Platform clients (comprising On-Model and Stills product photography) in addition to the expanding Creative Service portfolio (360 photography, Ecommerce Product Video and Editorial level content creation at present). 

Reporting into the Head of Creative, this role is based in the UK but requires significant bi-weekly/monthly travel to Portugal (Porto) where the studio and team are located. 

What you'll do:

  • ECOMMERCE 
  • Oversee the studios BAU Ecommerce output to ensure the highest standards of quality, consistency and accuracy, whilst maintaining productivity and targets
  • Partner with the Studio and Process Engineering teams in the critical evaluation of BAU creative process’ in order to and drive improvements to ways of working resulting in efficiency, productivity and an improved Cost Per Item
  • Lead on the proposal of Ecommerce solutions for new Platform Clients, working to a brief and cost Per Item expectation with the ability to re-work solutions in accordance with budget
  • Input on website designs for new clients to ensure that the proposed Ecommerce solutions work with the sites UX requirements and suggest alternative solutions as appropriate
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships with the Senior Creatives across other Farfetch Business Units (Farfetch.com and Brownsfashion.com)
  • Help shape and lead a strong creative team; consistently review and evaluate their development, contributing to twice yearly reviews, identify needs for training and development 
  • Be continuously up to date with emerging trends in fashion, design, film, art, media and technology where relevant to FPS clients and Creative Services 
  • CREATIVE SERVICES
  • Contribute to and help drive the creative strategy and vision of the department as directed by the Director of Creative Production and Head of Creative
  • Receive and respond to briefs for Creative Services initiatives, filtering down to the creative team and leading the development of innovative and compelling creative concepts that are relevant for individual FPS clients 
  • Work on a project basis, often balancing a number of projects or briefs at any one time with the ability to switch focus with ease, always ensuring that individual brand identity is upheld 
  • Oversee the execution of model, still life and video shoots, ensuring the results are on-brand per brand, diverse, contemporary and desirable 
  • Work alongside relevant teams to input on cost estimations
  • Provide leadership, inspiration, guidance, support and direction to the Creative team, promoting a collaborative and open environment and strong team spirit

Who you are:

  • Relevant experience of Photographic Direction and Art Direction experience with a fashion brand or design agency is essential. Relevant portfolio of recent work.
  • Extensive experience in directing both model and stills photography gained in both editorial and e-commerce environments, must be able to comfortably input and guide lighting and technical aspects of photography on-set 
  • Practised at working collaboratively as part of a team, able to lead projects and delegate
  • Experience reviewing and responding to styling suggestions and a sensitivity to understand what makes a look ‘on-brand’ or not  
  • Strong experience executing, briefing and reviewing Post Production is essential
  • Highly creative with a thorough understanding of layout, photography, typography and technical skills of the latest creative software(s) 
  • Interest and experience in the latest technologies such as Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, 3D and more
  • Proven video experience across all areas of the process including storyboarding, directing, editing and software knowledge 
  • A detail orientated approach and amazing organisation skills
  • Great attention to detail, forthcoming with ideas and initiatives, enthusiastic and collaborative 
  • Proven management, mentoring and personal development skills 
  • Experience in content creation for social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram 
  • Practiced at working to a budgets and able to tailor creative solutions to be budget appropriate 
  • Commercially focused with a curiosity to understand the performance behind the images
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate creative ideas and briefs
